The Wardell Family

Tanalian Leadership Center

Eric & Sarah
Evan, Ellah, Daniel

Eric and Sarah moved from Colorado to Alaska in 2011. Eric is a carpenter by trade and owned his own company for 14 years as a general contractor for residential homes. After spending summers mentoring college students in Alaska, the Lord called them to lead the Tanalian Leadership Center. Eric is able to combine his carpentry skills and his love for mentoring as he works with the students on the job site and in every day life. Sarah is able to mentor the young women in many areas as they spend time with her in the kitchen, outside or with their family. Their home is always open and always buzzing with activity. They enjoy the outdoors and spending time with their 3 children; Evan, Daniel and Ellah.

Anna Burrows

Anna Burrows

Development Director

Anna is an Idaho native who moved to Alaska in 2010. After graduating from Washington State University with a BA in Public Relations, she found a career in development at the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Washington’s Puget Sound. After six years with MDA, she took a job at an air taxi service for the summer in Port Alsworth, decided to stay on for the winter then never returned to Washington. Alaska had hooked her, and she grew to love the people in Bristol Bay. Wanting to use her talents in development again, the Lord led her to the position at the Tanalian Bible Camp as the Development Director. Anna also spends time mentoring the youth who are a part of the Tanalian Leadership Center. If she’s not with people, she’ll be off on a wilderness adventure.

The Rowland Family

Andrew & Megan

TLC Biblical Studies Coordinator

Andrew is a third generation Alaskan who was born and raised in Palmer. He decided to pursue his great love for people and seeing them grow through encountering the Word of God. This led him to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible/Theology and Pastoral Ministries from Multnomah University in Portland Oregon. He has truly found his calling in sharing the hope that he has found in Jesus with his fellow Alaskans. Megan has always loved discipling young women and helping them find their potential in Christ. She also has a BA is Family Ministries/Counseling from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Andrew & Megan both began at Tanalian Leadership Center as Resident Mentors and have loved spending time getting to know the students who are a part of the program. The Rowlands got married in July of 2015 and are excited to continue building relationships with students and continue deepening relationships with alumni. When they’re not spending time with the students you can find them trundling through the woods or playing board games with friends.

The Herrmann Family

Keenan & Hannah

Facilities Director

Keenan and Hannah were both born and raised in small Alaskan villages. They truly understand "bush” living. Keenan graduated from the School of Mission Aviation Technology in 2012 with an aircraft mechanic’s license. His next step was working as a helicopter mechanic in King Salmon, AK. During this time God drew Keenan’s heart to mission work in his home region. In November 2014, he moved to Port Alsworth as the Facilities Director at Tanalian Bible Camp. His background and skill with mechanics make him invaluable to the team at TBC. Hannah grew up working for her family’s small business and never dreamed she would be a missionary’s wife…until she met Keenan. She is primarily a wife and homemaker but also helps keep TBC guests well fed. Keenan and Hannah were married in April 2015 and are looking forward to many years of serving God together. They love the outdoors, especially fishing. Keenan enjoys knife making and leatherwork, and Hannah loves homemaking and music. Together, their love for Christ drives compassion for people and passion for seeing the love of Christ spread throughout Southwest Alaska.

Tom Dechert

Tom Dechert

TLC Resident Mentor

Tom hails from the breadbasket of the union; the good old Midwest. Though the cornfields did little to prepare him for the awesome mountain scenery of Alaska, he feels God has prepared him for the ministry at the Leadership Center. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Illinois State University, he spent two years serving in the Peace Corps as an English teacher in central Asia. For the past eight years, he has worked with at-risk youth at Mooseheart Child City and School as a live-in family teacher, support family teacher and an administrator. Tom’s passions include music, writing and helping others understand the truth and beauty of Christ. He looks forward to serving with the Tanalian Leadership Center to help level a few spiritual mountains in the lives of those living in remote Alaska.

Bookkeeper, Office Staff

After helping her husband, Nate, at schools in Naknek, Seward, and Grace Christian School in Anchorage, she now enjoys living at Port Alsworth year-round since 2014. Her hobbies include hiking, quilting, building family, lady book clubs, and catching king salmon. She started bookkeeping for TBC in 2015 and enjoys the staff family camaraderie and helping TBC flourish in its ministry to the people of Southwest Alaska.
